About Knitting Mastery

Knitting Mastery exists for one reason: to make learning to knit feel calm, clear and achievable, whatever your age and wherever you start from.

Why we teach knitting this way

Many people who would love to knit give up early. Not because knitting is hard, but because it is often taught too fast, with too much jargon, or in the wrong order. A video skips a movement, a pattern uses an abbreviation nobody explained, a mistake appears and there is no one to ask.

So we built our teaching around a few simple principles:

  • Every step, nothing skipped. Techniques are broken down into small, numbered steps, and every term is explained the first time it appears.
  • The right order. Each skill prepares the next one, from your first cast-on to fitted sweaters.
  • Mistakes are part of the plan. You learn how to spot a problem and fix it calmly, without unravelling everything.
  • Projects worth making. Each new technique is practised on something you will be glad to wear, use or give.

What you'll find here

  • Free tutorials on the blog, from the very first stitches to fixing mistakes, choosing yarn and reading patterns.
  • Ebooks you can download and keep, to read on your phone, tablet or computer, or print.
  • Video courses that let you watch every movement up close, pause, rewind and knit along at your own pace.

All our books and courses are gathered in the library. If you are completely new to knitting, the best place to begin is our start here page.

In your language

Knitting Mastery is available in fourteen languages. Our tutorials are written for knitters in each language, with the vocabulary and conventions they actually use.
